First it is important to make the student feel comfortable because some might find the thought of taking lessons intimidating, especially if they are new or haven't taken a lesson before. Helping the student develop the proper movements in the swing for long term success is the goal. It all starts with the proper setup, grip, and alignment. From there, I want to help the student understand the relationship between how the body moves and the impact that will have on contact and ball flight & direction. Giving the student the knowledge and feel of the correct body movements will help them understand if they are performing them when they are hitting balls on the range or playing out on the course. After reviewing the full swing, we want to focus on the one main part of the swing that is the root cause of the inconsistencies. Improving an early aspect of the swing motions can have a positive effect on some of the later swing motions as golf is all about physics and being in the proper position to perform the correct movements in the proper sequence. Providing them with written notes, video and pictures, and drills will appeal to verbal, visual, and kinesthetic learners. It is all about developing the proper body movements that will lead to a long term consistent golf swing.
